Ahh, swimsuit season! I have such a love hate relationship with this time of year. I absolutely love spending time in the sun and being outdoors near the water. However, since having kids, putting on a swimsuit isn’t necessarily my favorite thing to do. I can’t even tell you how many suits I’ve tried on just trying to find something that I don’t hate.
Another thing that makes swimsuit shopping difficult is finding the right amount of coverage for your body type. Some styles just show way more skin than I’m comfortable with and some just don’t stay in place. In this post I’ve rounded up my tried and true favorites as well as some new styles that I’m going to try this year to share with you all. I’ve also broken it down into a one piece and two piece category to help make choosing the best swimsuits even easier.
This right here is hands down the best swimsuit I’ve ever owned. It was a little pricey but it is universally flattering and very comfortable. Several of my friends with very different body types than my own also own this suit and it looks amazing on each and every one of them. It’s true to size and comes in a handful of colors. I actually even found this color on sale for over 50% off! And no, the white is not see-through (I promise).
If shopping for swimsuits wasn’t bad enough already, bringing your kids along is like adding insult to injury (see above photo LOL). This suit is by the same designer as the one above and is also super high quality. It’s made of a much more structured fabric so I definitely recommend sizing up in this as it does fit much tighter.
If you’re still not sure if you want to wear a one-piece or a two-piece, this cut out style is a must try. Unfortunately this pattern from last year is sold out, but I’ve linked another color way that I think you’ll also love. This suit is actually very flattering and structured and is moderately priced at $50. I would definitely recommend sizing up 1-2 from your normal clothing size in this suit.
This suit is the most affordable at only $30. It has great structure but does run a tad small so I’d recommend sizing up. It has the cutest cutout details on the sides and back and is pretty modest in the booty area. This one is perfect for Memorial Day and the 4th of July too!
This one piece from Pink Lily boutique is one of my new favorites this season. This swimsuit is so comfy and stretchy while holding you in safe and secure. It runs true to size and the ruffle detail goes all the way around. It comes in 2 colors but what I love most is that it can double as a bodysuit. I think it would be super flattering on any body type.
To be honest, I haven’t felt too comfortable in a 2 piece for the last year or so. I’ve been working hard in the gym, so hopefully that will change before swimsuit season officially hits. I do feel that 2 pieces are the best swimsuits for the beach though so that is motivation enough. This scalloped set is super classy, modest and comfortable and is under $50 for the set. My exact top is no longer available but I’ve linked this similar one along with the bottoms. I’m also linking up a few styles that I recently ordered.
In all honesty, I am typically not a fan of high waisted bikini bottoms. Something about them reminds me of a diaper LOL. I don’t know if it’s my body or what. But this one is super flattering and is so comfortable. It’s probably one of the best swimsuits I’ve found. I stayed true to size in the bottoms but sized up to a D/DD in the top for more chest coverage. I’m not large chested but since the straps adjust and the back has a tie it works and I like the extra coverage.
This suit was actually an Amazon find. I am very impressed with the fit and quality of this suit. I ordered a size 8 for reference and it fits perfectly. I’m usually a 2/4 in clothing or a medium in swim.
Thanks for reading! I hope your swimsuit buying experience is a good one 🙂
