Happy Fri-yay! As you guys might already know, finding shorts isn’t easy for me. I’m short with a short torso and muscular legs so finding short overalls has been an exceptional challenge. As some of you may also know from this post and this post, I love overalls. I lived in them in junior high and high school and am so happy they’re trendy again now. Today I’m going to share with you all the pairs I tried as well as what worked and what didn’t.
GAP Denim Shortalls – Medium Indigo
When I purchased these GAP was having a 40% off sale so I got them for about $35. They said they had a relaxed fit so I was hopeful that they would be the perfect fit for me. Unfortunately they were way too loose in the body and tight in the thighs for me so they will be going back. These would probably work better for someone with a slimmer build or with more of an apple shape.
GAP Denim Short Overalls – Light Indigo
So I ordered these in a dark and a light wash to see what I liked better. Unfortunately they both fit the same however the light wash seemed to be slightly tighter. Again, they are great quality but they were a bit too loose in the body and too tight in the thighs. I also felt like the buckles were rather loud. They were a very flattering yet modest length though.
Free People Summer Babe Hi Lo Overall
These had some mixed reviews but I really loved the frayed hem so I decided to give them a try. These were so close to perfect but not quite there. I have the full length overalls from Free People in a size 26 so I sized up to 27 in these since they have no stretch. They fit my thighs and the length was pretty good but the leg openings came up just a tad too high for my liking. I’m not feeling the best about my legs right now so that could have had something to do with it. I feel like these would work best on the 5’5″ and under crowd as they are a little short. They could fit a variety of body shapes but I would definitely recommend sizing up one in these.
H&M Denim Bib Overalls
H&M is usually hit or miss for me to be honest. They’re based in European sizes which don’t seem to work that well for me. I was being optimistic and ordered these in 2 sizes because at $34.99 they are a great deal. I ordered them in an 8 and a 10 (I wear a 2 or a 4 in American sizes) and the 8 was extremely tight and the 10 was still tight. They were very tailored in the waist and the bib was pretty narrow on the torso. These didn’t work for me but I would say they would look great on a very petite build or on a curvier, hourglass body type. Definitely size up though.
AE Overall Short
These are unfortunately an online only item. They keep popping up in random sizes so I grabbed them in an XS. I love the distressing and the wash but unfortunately they’re a little too small. Luckily I was able to find a medium to try so we will see if they fit better. The bib width and length is perfect and I love everything about these. I would say American Eagle runs a tad smaller so I think the medium should fit me well. I would have preferred a small but unfortunately that wasn’t in stock to try. These I would say would fit best on slim and straight body types or more athletic builds if you’re able to size up.
Abercrombie Classic Shortalls
I am normally a size 26/27 in this brand so I went with a size small in these. This was the only pair I put on that I had no fit issues whatsoever. They have a light wash, moderate distressing and a frayed hem which I love and the leg openings are not tight on my thighs at all. I am going to compare these to the medium in the AE short overalls to make my ultimate decision but for right now this is my favorite pair. I would say these would work great for most body types except the very slim/petite and curvy due to the relaxed, boyfriend fit.
