Today marks exactly 3 years since we moved to LA. It’s hard to believe it’s been 3 years already! We’ve seen and done so much in this short time and I think it’s definitely been time well spent. Los Angeles is a gigantic city so I don’t think you could ever “see it all” but that won’t stop me from trying. Today I’m sharing where to find 10 of the most Instagrammed spots in LA that I have personally visited.
1. The Pink Wall
Location: 8221 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046
2. Silver Retna Mural
Location: 140 S Orlando Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90048
3. Collette Miller’s Angel Wings
Location: West 3rd Street at Orlando Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90048 (across the street from Retna Mural and behind Magnolia Bakery)
4. Made in LA Wall
Location: 8025 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046
5. Micheltorena Stairs
Location: 1511 Micheltorena Street, Los Angeles, CA 90026 (across from Micheltorena Elementary School)
6. Hollywood Sign
This one is the trickiest to actually visit and you will need to hike to get the best views. To get closest to the sign and hike up behind it. You will hike via the Hollyridge Trail to the Brush Canyon Trail. To get a more direct view, you can walk the Lake Hollywood Reservoir.
To read about all of the hikes out to the sign, click here. Parking for the Hollyridge Trail is off of Beechwood Dr and street parking is very limited.
7. Lamps at LACMA
Location: 5905 Willshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036
8. Hollywood Walk of Fame
Location: Hollywood Blvd & North Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028
9. Venice Sign
Location: Pacific Ave & Windward Ave, Venice, CA 90291
10. Dodger Stadium
Location: 1000 Vin Scully Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012
If you do visit any of these places, tag me in your photos and use the hashtag #mysocaledlife so that I can see them. Also remember that because these are some of the most Instagrammed spots in LA, you will most likely be surrounded by others trying to get the same photo as you for their Instagram account. Also, please obey all traffic laws and don’t do anything stupid just to get “the perfect shot”!
Since I’ve shown you where the most Instagrammed spots in Los Angeles are, I’m also going to share with you how I edit my photos.
For the most part I use my iPhone 7+ and shoot most of my pictures in “square” mode. On occasion I will use my Sony A5000 camera. Lighting and focus are key so make sure you have those two elements in check when taking your pictures. There’s only so much you can do to a bad photo.
There are mainly only 2 apps I use to edit my photos and both are free. The first is VSCO and the second is Lightroom by Adobe. (note I do NOT pay for the subscription to Adobe, I just use the free apps). I use Lightroom only if I need to edit one particular color. For example, if I’m taking pictures with a lot of grass and greenery, I like to desaturate the greens.
In VSCO you can download different filters to use. Some are free, some are paid. For the photos on my Instagram, I use the HB1 and HB2 filters only. You can lower the intensity of the filter to make it look more natural as well. Here is exactly what I do: lower filter intensity to 6.0, up the exposure to 2.0, up the contrast to 2.0 and that’s it! The best part, I can just copy the edits and paste them to every photo so I get one clean and cohesive look no matter what. Obviously some photos call for other edits but for about 90% of my photos, that’s all I do.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the most Instagrammed spots in LA and how I edit my photos. If you’d like to hear more about my social media insights please let me know. Also, I’d love to hear what the most Instagrammed spots are in your city!
