Memorial Day Weekend in Venice Beach

Memorial Day Weekend in Venice Beach California

Last week when scrolling through Instagram, I discovered an interesting new restaurant in Venice Beach and decided that this was the weekend to try it. Typically holiday weekends are a nightmare when trying to go anywhere near a body of water. We didn’t have much else going on so we figured why not go now.

Venice Beach is mostly known for Muscle Beach and it’s “eclectic” and carefree vibe. It’s located on the West Side of Los Angeles just south of Santa Monica and north of Marina Del Rey. It is definitely filled with it’s own sense of charm and character, including lots of beautiful street art.

I wore this comfy, casual and semi-patriotic look for the occasion:

Our first stop was Bank of Venice. It’s right next to the world famous “Venice” sign so you can’t miss it. We ordered the Ahi tuna sandwich and the Bank burger and both were awesome.

After lunch we walked along the bike path (the bikers weren’t too happy about that) down to Muscle Beach. According to Wikipedia this beach is attributed to being the birthplace for the physical fitness boom in the U.S. in the early 1900s. Which, as someone preparing for a career in the fitness industry, I think is pretty cool. My family of course all had to test out the equipment.

Before heading home we stoped by the infamous Venice Canals. The streets are very narrow and parking is kind of tricky so we didn’t stay long. It was definitely worth the trip though! They’re really quite beautiful. It’s amazing to me that these exist here in California.

Things to keep in mind when visiting Venice Beach:

Venice Beach is a very popular, world famous tourist spot. Go there with that in mind and know that it will very likely be crowded. You can also expect to pay $15+ for parking. Know that if you are visiting during popular times like spring break, holiday weekends or summer the crowds will increase. You can’t expect to go to popular tourist spots and think they’re going to be empty. Period.

Let me know if you end up going, I’d love to hear your thoughts! As always, thanks for reading!

  1. At first mention of Bank of Venice, I thought you were hitting the ATM (lol). That burger… Yum!!! My daughter is going on her first trip to Cali next week and I’m super excited for her to go. I’ve only been to San Diego years ago but it was truly beautiful. I don’t know why, but for some reason we usually go to the east coast for our vacations. We are going to have to hit the west side next time for sure. Thanks for these tips 🙂

    • It actually used to be a bank! (I’m pretty sure at least 😉 ) You’re very welcome! I’m sure there are tons of other things to do but we didn’t make it out there until after 1:30 and my kids were grouchy so we had to leave.
