Cheers to the freakin’ weekend! Sorry I haven’t been around this week I have just been incredibly busy. I know I am a personal trainer and probably shouldn’t be encouraging you to drink beer but I’m also a real person too you guys. As I’ve said a zillion times before, I am all about taking a balanced and sustainable approach to fitness. That being said, be sure to drink responsibly and in moderation. I just think it’s important to enjoy yourself and the foods you love on occasion. If you live on a 90% clean diet, 10% fun won’t derail your efforts. I’ve been to quite a few breweries but I’m highlighting only the best breweries in Southern California.
Best Breweries in Southern California
1.El Segundo Brewing Co., El Segundo
We actually discovered this place on accident actually. We ordered another beer at a restaurant and the waiter brought their limited edition Beginner’s Luck IPA to us as a taster. It was fruity, floral and refreshingly crisp. Last weekend we visited their taproom and confirmed that everything they make is pretty solid.
2.Topa Topa Brewing Co., Ventura
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed we are in Ventura pretty much every single weekend. This brewery has 16 unique rotating taps of their hand-crafted beers. They do have an outdoor patio which is pet and kid friendly. Also, Tony’s Pizzeria is right next door which has incredible wood fired pizza and they will deliver. Bonus: it’s only blocks from the beach.
3.Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co., Santa Barbara, Westlake Village and Central Coast
Again, if you guys have been following me for a while, you know that we hit up this spot every time we go to Santa Barbara. My favorite brew is the Mosaic Ale. They describe it as a “floral, tropical pale ale” and it is the perfect summer beer. It is named “mosaic” for the type of hops used for those of you who aren’t familiar with craft beers. Their Westlake Village location also is a full service restaurant that serves the best nachos that you’ll ever eat in your life. Trust me.
4.Pizza Port, San Diego County
Craft beer and specialty pizza, what’s not to love right? This place is known mainly for their IPA’s but they’re also a family and dog friendly restaurant. (Dogs on the patio only of course). Every time we drive home from San Diego we make a pit stop. My favorites are the Swammi’s and Cook IPA’s.
5.Golden Road Brewing, Atwater Village
Great beer and great ambience. This place isn’t just a brewery, it’s also a fun place to hang out. They have giant Jenga, cornhole and a cool outdoor patio. This location serves a variety of beers and they’re also a full service restaurant. They’re family and dog friendly and are conveniently located off of the 5 freeway near Glendale, Los Feliz and Dodger Stadium.
6.Stone Brewing Co., Escondido
Stone has been around for a while and they are nationally distributed. Their Delicious IPA and Unapologetic are some of my favorites. They aren’t too hoppy but still have an awesome flavor punch. They have a gorgeous outdoor eating area however they do not allow pets. Children are allowed. They do serve food but the menu is limited and quite pricey with pretty small portions.
The West Coast is known for craft breweries. I’m sure there are dozens if not hundreds more that I haven’t even tried. This list is what I currently consider to be the best breweries in Southern California but that is always subject to change. Northern California and Oregon also have some incredible local breweries.
Comment below and let me know what your favorites are so I can check those out too! Cheers
